Immersion mining is a method for preserving operational mining machines in extreme weather conditions. It can also be used to limit a machine’s wear and tear. As the name suggests, immersion mining systems are designed to store ASIC mining machines in large liquid-filled enclosures.
Immersion systems are primarily designed to limit the effects of extreme heat, humidity, dust and, in extreme cases, fires at mining farms. Avoiding the possibilities of corrosion, dust intake, and other destructive effects from air-cooling is the purpose of immersion systems.
The startup and maintenance costs for immersion systems are often much higher than standard air-cooled systems. But many liquid cooling systems claim significant efficiency enhancements and prolonged machine lifetimes, which can help mitigate the costs of immersion infrastructure.
